Major Surgery Preoperative Instructions

 

 

 

  1. Stop all aspirin, ibuprofen (motrin, advil etc) and Goody powder at least 2 weeks prior to your surgery date.

 

  1. Please let us know if you smoke or have a heart condition

 

 

  1. Bring all of your medications with you on your preop date

 

  1. One day prior to your scheduled surgery you need to start a clear liquid diet. Some examples are: chicken broth, fruit juices, hello coffee, tea and coke

 

 

  1. If a preoperative bowel prep is needed your physician will direct you to the bowel prep instruction link

 

  1. Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the day before your surgery. This includes water, mints or gum

 

 

  1. At the time of your preop appointment consent forms will be signed and then you will go to your designated hospital to get your preop blood work. There you will be instructed as to what time you need to arrive at the hospital for your surgery. If your surgery is at University Hospital you will be go to the outpatient center for your preop blood work. The outpatient center is open from 8:30 to 5:30.

 

 

  1. Do not wear makeup, nail polish, body oils or lotions.
